Job Summary
The Software QA Developer (internally titled Software QA Specialist - Intermediate) ensures software meets user requirements and quality standards through manual and automated testing. Key responsibilities include designing and executing test cases, identifying and documenting defects, and verifying resolutions prior to release.
The role also involves developing and maintaining API automation (Python, Cucumber) and UI automation (Selenium or Playwright), conducting performance and cloud-based testing using AWS services (Lambda, API Gateway, S3), and troubleshooting issues using logs and monitoring tools. Collaborating closely with developers, the Software QA Developer supports test planning, risk assessment, and continuous quality improvement throughout the product lifecycle.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Testing software with the understanding of what bugs are critical to the end-user.
- Creating and maintaining test documentation.
- Creating new entries in our bug tracking software for any new bugs identified in the system.
- Verifying bug fixes are satisfactory on newly transferred build.
- Maintenance of automation frameworks, tests and tools.
- Troubleshooting complex problems in software.
- Assisting Technical Services in providing product support.
- Acting as a resource to other departments on products and applications.
- Assisting with documentation for software manuals, and technical documents.
- Regularly identifying deficiencies in the test suite and ensures they are resolved.
- Identifying usability problems and making suggestions for improvement.
- Designing and estimating test development on small to medium projects or features.
- Designing / creating test strategies and test plans for small to medium projects or subsystems.
- Supporting junior members of the team.
Job Requirements
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Able to perform well under pressure and consistently meet deadlines.
- Strong expertise in manual test cdesign and bug identification/reporting.
- Hands-on experience with API automation using Python and Cucumber.
- Proficient in UI testing with Selenium or Playwright.
- Basic knowledge of AWS services, including Lambda, API Gateway, S3, and CloudWatch.
- Familiarity with performance testing, including load and stress testing.
- Experience with Git and collaborative version control workflows.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
- 3+ years of professional Quality Assurance (QA) experience.
- Completed an accredited technology diploma program, undergraduate degree in Engineering or Computer Science, or possess equivalent work experience.
- Strong understanding of networked applications and systems, with the ability to identify potential failures and ensure quality, performance, and resilience.
- Proficient in Java, C#, Python, and JavaScript.
- Solid knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologies.
- Working knowledge of building controls, control theory, and electronics (considered an asset).
- Comprehensive knowledge of testing methods and procedures.
- Well-developed troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Salary: $70,000 - $85,000
This range reflects the minimum and maximum target payable for the base salary of new hires across all Canadian locations. Actual compensation may vary outside this range and is dependent on various factors.
